Welcome to a spectacular, unique experience at Orca Base camp in Tysfjord. Season between Oct-Dec.
Day 1 – Arrival
Check-in at Base camp and dinner.
Day 2 – Big Boat Safari
Our safari starts at Base Camp, with slides and talks on killer whales. Then we go to the safari boat. We often find whole groups of whales immediately, but sometimes it takes a bit longer. Sometimes, the whales get curious about us humans and come right alongside the boat. Light lunch onboard.
In the evening there will be a talk on herrings, which are the main reason why killer whales are present in this area. After dinner a “whale ceremony” will be held, with a video from the day's safari.
Day 3 - Zodiac Safari
After breakfast we go for a whale safari in a zodiac (inflatable dinghy). Just half a metre above the waves, you'll experience nature as you've never done before. Once we find the killer whales, we turn the engine off. Close contact with these great animals, the silence interrupted only by their dramatic blowing noises, the smell of real herrings, and you feel like part of the whole phenomenon. Words are not enough – you have to be there!
Snorkelling amongst killer whales
If conditions are right, and you're really adventurous, you can go into the water with the killer whales. Snorklers stay on the surface, and can experience killer whales in their element below the surface of the sea.
