The Sampo, the world's only tourist icebreaker, operates on the northern Gulf of Bothnia out of Kemi in Finnish Lapland. After serving for thirty years as an icebreaker in Arctic waters, the vessel has been given a new, more fascinating task – to act as a base for ice adventurers.
The frozen Arctic landscape, the winter darkness, the crackling frost and the clear starry skies with their Aurora Borealis offer visitors a unique experience in the midst of untamed nature. In late winter the sun appears in all its glory, painting the landscape a dazzling white – freshness and warmth to invigorate the traveller.
From early winter far into the spring
The Sampo sails from the middle of December to the end of April. The trips last four hours. For scheduled sailings, it's worthwhile making make a reservation well in advance. We recommend these cruises both for individual travellers and for groups.
